EPSTEIN ART DECO DINING SUITE

This is an original 1930's Art Deco blonde burr Walnut 6 seated dining suite made by the highly sort after H&L Epstein, Britain's largest designers and makers of high quality Art Deco furniture. This fantastic suite comprises 6 cloud back dining chairs, which have been newly covered in a high quality pale cream soft leather. . The generous sized dining table features a slab top with shamford corners with highly detailed veneers and a double pillar base, again with lovely veneering and accentuated with an instep walnut feather banding veneer to the bases. The whole suite has a beautiful finish, having been newly polished by our onsite restorers and is in MINT condition. If you've been looking for a suite which has the grandness and quality of high end Art Deco, along with great investment potential, then look no further, you've found it!

EPSTEIN BURR WALNUT DINING SUITE

An extremely rare opportunity to purchase this amazing dining room suite in - as new - condition, having been stored for the last 20 years! Apart from the matching 6 dining chairs recovered in cream suede, the rest of the suite consists of a 6 ft by 3 ft table with lovely boat-bottom plynth, a large stepped sideboard measuring 77 inches by 25 inches deep and 42 inches high and a server cupboard measuring 58 inches by 21 inches deep and 39 inches high. Both cupboard and sideboard are glass topped, with as-new clear, undamaged glass, and matching boat-bottom plynths. The cupboard has a central display shelf beneath and a felt lined cutlery drawer either side. The sideboard centre section opens to a set of 3 drawers, whilst the side cupboards are shelved. Typical Epstein scalloped detail to the door fronts and table give this suite an air of quality, but the main attribute of this suite is its condition. Internal doors, fittings, handles - everything is immaculate.

EGYPTIAN TURQUOISEGREEN FAIENCE ROYAL OFFERING CUP

This fine turquoise-green cup bears the faint traces of a double cartouche with single line of text, "Beloved of Sokar". Traces of the royal name indicate that it was one of the later Ramesside kings of 20th Dynasty, but which one is unclear.
Comes with translation, description and dating by Dr. Timothy Kendall, former Associate Curator of Egyptian & Near Eastern Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Ma.

Final blank before rear endpaper removed. Covers worn with some edge chipping, pages age-toned and foxed with a few stray ink dots, some tiny margin chips or tears, dampstains to the outer corner of the final six leaves, no names or other markings. A worn but sound copy.

(K11785) Autograph letter signed by the former slave of Alexander Hamilton Stephnes, ex-Vice President of the Confederacy. 4 pages, 8vo, on single folded sheet with small blind-embossed capitol on upper left corner of first page. Crawfordsville, GA, 14 January 1883. Eliza was the former slave of Confederate Vice President Stephens. She complains that she is being cheated on by a man who was attending to her "dray" business. Stephens was known for caring for his ex-slaves. A jotted notation at the end of the letter hints that some sort of stipend may have been given to Eliza. (K00563) Signed “Edward Everett” on autograph envelope to Daniel Hall. Postmarked June 21, Boston. The free frank, which grants the right to send mail without paying postal charges, was limited to presidents, higher military officers, cabinet officers, senators, congressmen and postmasters. After the 1860s, personally signed free franks become rarer due to increased use of secretarial signatures, signature stamps and pre-printed envelopes. After years of serious abuse, Congress abolished the privilege in 1873. However, franking soon reemerged in varying forms, including congressional franked mail, official penalty mail for governmental departments and personal free mail under signature for authorized persons. The President never regained the privilege, although Congress has granted the right to former Presidents, including Herbert Hoover and Harry S. Truman.... (K08822) Regarding Dictionary of Literary and Dramatic Criticism Signed “Ellery Queen" to Mr. Joseph A. Shipley. Two pages The letter reads, in part: “We are in deep sympathy with your aims, but unfortunately we are so tied up these days with work that it would be impossible for us to sit down and do the work required for your Dictionary…” Ellery Queen. (Pseudonym of two cousins, Frederic Dannay and Manfred B. Lee). The most important American detective writers of the Twentieth Century. Dannay largely plotted the Queen novels, and Lee did most of the writing. Dannay also edited Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine (EQMM) and numerous anthologies. His critical writings in that magazine, partly collected in “In the Queen’s Parlor”, and his history “Queen’s Quorum”, are major critical works on the detective short story... EGERMANN RUBY RED VASE CZECH BOHEMIAN GLASS

This vase is ruby red to clear etch and has no chips or cracks. It stands 8.5 inches tall. The pattern shows a building with trees and birds and there is a scroll border. The gold foil label is intact and reads Egermann Czech Republic. Great piece of Bohemia glass for any collection.

This black wool and mohair vintage hat may possibly be earlier than the 1940s. It is unstructured and is lined in a soft fabric very similar to the 1930s. It is very drapey and maybe should be worn as a side cloche style. It has black braiding and flirty fringes. It measures almost 22" inside.

EARLY MEXICAN STERLING & JADE? SCREWBACK EARRINGS

These lovely earrings are quite old. I've had them forever, yet they're still in excellent condition! I don't know what the stone is, but it looks like jade. They're 3/4 of an inch long and 5/8 of an inch wide. The only mark on them is "STERLING MEXICO". They're very comfortable to wear, and look marvelous on!

This lovely English tall case clock dates from around 1760. It features a 12" brass dial with second hand. The dial is inscribed Rob Scholfield . It measures 18.5" wide, 9.5" deep and stands 88" high. It is in very good overall condition.

This is a wonderful bergeres style sofa. The dealer was informed that this piece was once owned by Prime Minister Harold McMillan. It measures 83 inches long, 28 inches deep and 33 inches high at the back. It is in excellent condition. The only flaw I can find is one of the arms has a crack. I have included a picture. All of the caning is in good shape. It is in very good condition.

ENGLISH TEA TABLE

Constructed of mahogany and satinwood with a banded border of inlaid bellflowers, oval flowers and rosettes trimming the mahogany top above two drawers on opposing ends with inlaid vines and trumpets. Raised on four tapered, inlaid legs ending in spade feet. The tapered leg is accentuated by the taper of the spade foot giving the table an very elegant appearance. Very minor restoration to some of the inlay. No structural restoration. Very attractive and stable.

Nicely decorated in urn form English muffineer dating to circa 1800. Sterling silver marks of the Lion and the Shield - "476". Originally used for powdered sugar and now serve as a wonderful decorative accent. This piece measures 9" tall and 4" wide.

E. L. WARNER COSMOS CLUB

Perhaps this is Warner’s finest work while serving in the Navy and living in Washington D.C.. This wintry scene depicts Washington’s famous Cosmos Club – founded in 1878 and considered the social headquarters for Washington's intellectual elite. The use of color, shadow and illumination exemplify Warner style. The evening light reflecting in the snow filled sky offers great contrast to the darkened silhouettes and the use of light and brush stroke to depict motion to the lower right of the image. Ther exists an Old Lyme Art Club and the National Art Club (NY) Members Exhibition labels en verso. Framed by the artist with pencil inscription. Untouched original condition. Entitled: "The Cosmos Club”. Signed Lower Right. Watercolor. Measuring 29” wide by 25” high.

E. L. WARNER FAIRFAX HOTEL

During his stay in Washington D.C. as a camouflage expert for the Navy, Warner’s impressionistic style was at its best. This scene depicts the Fairfax Hotel in Washington circa 1941. Wonderful use of light and depth to contrast the darkened sky. The treatment to the lower half suggests movement by the artist - typical of Warners style during this period. Warner has included his 1941 Ford (lower right) in to his subject. This unusual pastel on paper has a wonderful array of colors and whimsical feel. The painting is pastel on paper laid on board and has a sight size measuring 15" wide by 19" high and an overall size of 19 1/2" wide by 23 3/4" high. Never out of frame. Original condition.

EDMUND COATES OIL ON CANVAS

Edmund Coates (American 1816 - 1871) Born in England; a listed American artist in the Hudson River style, Coates lived in New York City during his active years (1837 - 1872). Although noted for his Hudson River style, he also travelled to New Hampshire. This piece is entitled Mountain Retreat which has a European feel - although it is not clear that Coates travelled abroad. The detail in this image is quite good. The subject is very pleasant with great depth to the lower right where the artist depitcs a small village at the foot of the mountains with sailboats on a lake. Housed on its original stretcher with no restoration. Craquelure to the surface. The frame is old but perhaps not part of the original presentation. Tall and impressive! Ancient Egyptian Wood Figure of Hathor, Late Period, ca. 716 - 30 B.C. The ancient Egyptians believed Hathor was the personification of the Milky Way, which was seen as the milk that flowed from the utters of a heavenly cow. Carved from a single piece of wood, she wears a long dress and short wig, shown slightly striding. Arms and feet missing since antiquity. Ex-NYC Gallery.

EGYPTIAN GILDED CARTONNAGE MUMMY MASK

Ancient mummy covering dating to the Late Period, circa 700 to 300 B.C. Made from gesso (painted plaster) over linen with the face nicely gilded, this cartonnage mask was taken from a male mummy and is shown wearing a deep black beard, nice chest pectoral panel in shades of red, white, blue and black, large black and white almond-shaped eyes, blue gray border. 14"W x 12"H, in generally excellent condition with a few minor cracks, but reasonably sturdy and would look great custom framed -- which we can help the new owner with acquiring. EGYPTIAN FAIENCE SCARAB, EX-MITRY COLLECTION

Finely-carved ancient Egyptian Scarab created from green glazed steatite, dating from the Second Intermediate Period, XVII Dynasty, ca. 1650-1567 B.C. Depicting the beetle on obverse, as Kheer, ancient God of good luck, fertility and new life; reverse side shows a well-incised animal - probably "apis" the sacred bull, or "mahes" the sacred lion. In front of it could possibly be the feather of truth & justice "Maat." This scarab is carved in typical style of Hyksos Period, smooth sides with no visible legs, copying archaic style. 15mm, intact/excellent, retaining good, deep color with superficial crack on top. ETRUSCAN TERRACOTTA VOTIVE EX-CHRISTIE''S

Important example! Ancient Etruscan Terracotta Votive Figure, ca. late 3rd / early 2nd century B.C. Elongated, stylized figure with a crudely molded head, the lidded eyes with articulated pupils, the mouth severe, with a mantle pulled up over the back of the head and falling in a single U-shaped fold, a hand in relief on the lower abdomen above the base of the U, the lower body reduced to a cylindrical shaft with drapery folds in low relief, preserving some red pigment throughout. Represents an infant in swaddling cloth, held tenderly by its mother''s hand. These were placed at temple as a votive/offering asking for good health of the infant (perhaps sickness, to make child better). Rare to find complete with mounting and with such extensive original pigment. 29-1/4"H, appears intact, but broken/repaired across chest section, heavy surface encrustation.
