Description and Provenance Finely-carved ancient Egyptian Scarab created from green glazed steatite, dating from the Second Intermediate Period, XVII Dynasty, ca. 1650-1567 B.C. Depicting the beetle on obverse, as Kheer, ancient God of good luck, fertility and new life; reverse side shows a well-incised animal - probably "apis" the sacred bull, or "mahes" the sacred lion. In front of it could possibly be the feather of truth & justice "Maat." This scarab is carved in typical style of Hyksos Period, smooth sides with no visible legs, copying archaic style. 15mm, intact/excellent, retaining good, deep color with superficial crack on top.
