Description and Provenance Tall and impressive! Ancient Egyptian Wood Figure of Hathor, Late Period, ca. 716 - 30 B.C. The ancient Egyptians believed Hathor was the personification of the Milky Way, which was seen as the milk that flowed from the utters of a heavenly cow. Carved from a single piece of wood, she wears a long dress and short wig, shown slightly striding. Arms and feet missing since antiquity. Ex-NYC Gallery.
