Description and Provenance Perhaps this is Warner’s finest work while serving in the Navy and living in Washington D.C.. This wintry scene depicts Washington’s famous Cosmos Club – founded in 1878 and considered the social headquarters for Washington's intellectual elite. The use of color, shadow and illumination exemplify Warner style. The evening light reflecting in the snow filled sky offers great contrast to the darkened silhouettes and the use of light and brush stroke to depict motion to the lower right of the image. Ther exists an Old Lyme Art Club and the National Art Club (NY) Members Exhibition labels en verso. Framed by the artist with pencil inscription. Untouched original condition. Entitled: "The Cosmos Club”. Signed Lower Right. Watercolor. Measuring 29” wide by 25” high.
